In the eighties, the kids would trade safety pins that had colored beads strung along them. They would attach them to the laces of their shoes. The more pins, the more friends they showed they had. Thirty years later, the fad is seeing how many "friends" can be amassed on a cyber-social network. Rather disingenuous, I’m thinking.
